GOOGLE REPLACED DERBY MATCH VENUE TO BARASAT INSTEAD OF SILIGURI
By R. Subrata (TNI Siliguri) | Edited By D. Prasun (TNI Siliguri)
Webdesk, TNI Siliguri 02nd April, 2016: While the East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan match was going on an interesting thing happened. Fans of both the clubs who was taking live score through online search engine like Google were amazed to find that the venue mentioned in the online page was showing Barasat Stadium instead of Kanchenjungha Krirangan of Siliguri.
It was a major fallout of the entire episode. Some other site showed the venue was Yuva Bharati Krirangan of Kolkata instead of Kanchenjungha Stadium. Siliguri Mahakuma Krira Parishad (SMKP) tried its level best to bag the most sought after Derby into this stadium and had worked hard to prepare the ground and the stadium. However, it came in a major setback for the online users to find that the name of this stadium stayed deleted.
It was not only for Google the error occurred but also for some other live football score sites the same error was seen like www.flashscore.com, www.livesoccertv.com etc. TNI tried to contact with the AIFF officials about the fiasco. However, they declined to comment on the matter. According to Mr. Sekhar Saha, IT specialist of a Siliguri Based IT firm “The problem may be due to late declaration of the venue by AIFF. The IT handlers of those sites haven’t updated the venue. Google cannot also deny the error.”
